Have you ever solo traveled in Mexico?

Personally, I had a great experience as a female solo traveler in Mexico City! I felt safe, it was easy to meet people, and there was so much to do so I never felt bored. Amazing cafes and restaurants, cultural experiences and green spaces…. Nothing not to love 🫶🏼🇲🇽

Would you travel solo to Mexico?

📍Hotel Alpachaca, Quito Airport, Ecuador

Have an overnight layover in Quito (UIO airport) before heading to the Galapagos or somewhere else in Ecuador? This hotel is 5 minutes from the airport and had the best view of the mountains and sunset! 😍🌄

I stayed here because I was meeting my boyfriend in Quito and my flight arrived a day earlier. So I stayed here for one night and when he arrived we headed into the city together. I even got to watch his plane land in the morning which was awesome! ✈️

So much better than the $$$ chain hotels, and there delicious breakfast & shuttle to and from the airport. And you can’t beat $18 a night!!

Not sure which hostel/hotel to choose for your sol Not sure which hostel/hotel to choose for your solo trip? Follow my guide below to make sure you book the BEST accomodation for you!

How to choose the PERFECT accommodation! 🏠

1️⃣ First, decide what kind of accommodations you want for your trip. Are you comfortable sharing a room with strangers? If yes, go for hostels because they’re cheaper and will make it easy to make friends. If you’d prefer a private room, look for hostels with private rooms or stay in affordable hotels or AirBNBs.

2️⃣ Use @hostelworld to read reviews from other solo travelers. I love that HostelWorld includes gender and demographic in their reviews, so you can see how people like you felt staying there. You’ll also be able to get a sense of the vibes of the hostel. Is it a party hostel with loud music playing all night? Or is it social but laidback with lots of group activities? Choose the hostel that’s right for you.

3️⃣ When choosing a hostel, I always make sure there are female dorms available. This is a personal preference, but especially if it’s your first solo trip, I recommend sticking to female dorms.

4️⃣ Check the location on google maps and make sure it’s in a convenient, safe neighborhood. I usually choose an accommodation in the middle of the city, walkable to lots of restaurants and attractions. For me, it’s important that I’m able to walk to a restaurant by myself at night. And I hate being dependent on taxis or Ubers everyday, so I make sure I can walk or take safe public transit to almost everywhere I want to go.

5️⃣ Check the amenities of the hostel:

❌ What’s the cancellation policy? If you want to have flexibility to change plans, book something that’s cancellable up to a few days before.

☕️ Does it offer free breakfast? If you’re on a budget this can save you some money in the long run!

✈️ Do they provide airport transfers? Getting from the airport to a city can be stressful, so this can eliminate some of the stress of figuring it out yourself.

How to spend a perfect day in Guanajuato, Mexico 🫶🏼
